01Mar2020 - Reach for a Dream
CWR training today took on a completely different practice to our norm.
We were honored to team up with Reach for a Dream, Port Elizabeth. We had the privilege of taking 9 boys, between the ages of 3-9, into the water to allow them the opportunity to become ‘rescue swimmers’ for a few hours, under the close supervision of our rescue swimmers. This is part of the Reach for a Dream Captain Courage program. These boys all have to be very courageous facing their own individual challenges in life.
The boys were given the opportunity to paddle the rescue Croc, "rescue" one another using torpedo buoys, paddling the malibu boards and generally having fun while getting a feel of what it is like to be a rescue swimmer.
Thank you to the Willow Grove, who allowed us the make use of their facilities. The boys were spoilt with goodie bags, bandanas, swimming shorts, river shoes, towels, wors rolls, sweets, cool drinks and so much more kindly provided through the awesome generosity of sponsors who came on board to make the day so special. The sponsors included Macsteel, Michelle Elfrick and friends, Rand Merchant Bank and Gardmed. We thank you. A surplus of R2100.00 cash received from our sponsors was handed over to Reach for a Dream to be used at future events.
A big thank you to our CWR volunteers who made the day so special for these boys, and particularly to our youngest member, Amy Erasmus, who took on the role of securing the sponsorship and organizing the special day for these deserving young boys.
